Practical Experience, Awareness, Advocacy and Specialist Support.
ARBD Awareness Consultancy Ltd was created from many years of direct frontline experience working with individuals affected by Alcohol-Related Brain Damage (ARBD) and Korsakoff Syndrome within specialist residential services.
Despite growing awareness around mental health and addiction, ARBD remains one of the least understood and most overlooked conditions affecting vulnerable individuals across health and social care systems. Many people living with ARBD continue to experience stigma, delayed recognition, inappropriate placements and ineffective support because the condition is still frequently misunderstood or viewed simply as alcoholism rather than a complex neurological and cognitive disorder.
Our consultancy was originally established in 2018 as an awareness and training initiative created by professionals working directly within specialist ARBD services. Following years of continued frontline experience, we recognised that the need for greater awareness, education, advocacy and specialist support remains just as important today.
We have relaunched ARBD Awareness Consultancy Ltd with a wider vision — not only to support specialist services, but also to work across healthcare, social care, emergency services, education and the wider community to improve understanding and recognition of ARBD.
Our team has over 20 years of collective experience supporting individuals affected by alcohol-related cognitive impairment, addiction and complex behavioural needs. Our experience includes specialist residential services, rehabilitation-focused support, addiction services and long-term enablement work with individuals living with ARBD and Korsakoff Syndrome.
What makes our approach different is that our knowledge is built not only from clinical understanding, but from years of practical daily experience working directly alongside people affected by this condition. Through frontline support, rehabilitation programmes, structured enablement approaches and long-term care, we have developed valuable insight into the realities of living with ARBD and the challenges faced by professionals supporting this client group.
Over the years, we have worked with individuals experiencing severe cognitive impairment, self-neglect, memory loss, emotional dysregulation, addiction-related behaviours and long-term health complications linked to alcohol misuse. We have also seen that with the right structure, abstinence, rehabilitation and support, meaningful progress and recovery can be possible.
One of the achievements we remain most proud of is supporting individuals who progressed from specialist placements back into independent living and later returned to work within care services themselves. These experiences continue to reinforce our belief that, with the right support and understanding, positive outcomes are possible.
Our long-term vision is to help ARBD become a better recognised and better understood condition across society and professional services. We believe individuals affected by ARBD deserve the same dignity, understanding, opportunity and professional support as any other person living with a long-term health condition.
